Non Verbal Classification - Identify Similar Figure

Classification: Classification, deal with problems which satisfy certain the rule. We are given a set of figures, such that all, except one have similar characteristics/features. We are required to select the figure which satisfies the rule

Choosing a Similar Figure:  The problems on this type of classification, involve a set of four figures followed by four options comprising of a figure in each option. The four figures forming the Problems Set are alike in a certain manner that is they satisfy a certain rule. The candidate is required to identify the rule and then apply the rule on the options given. A figure from amongst the option figures is to be chosen such that it is similar to the Problems figures in that manner.

Illustration: In the problem,a set of four figures are given with four option figures marked (A), (B), (C) and (D), The problem figure has certain common features. Select a figure from the options which has the same features..

A

B

C

D

Answer : D

Solution :  On analysing the problem figures we see that one arrow is added as we move from one figure to the next figure. Moreover the direction of arrows is changing from clock wise to anti clock wise alternately.

  • The first figure has one arrow in clock wise direction
  • The second figure has two arrows but in anti clock wise direction
  • The third figure has three arrows but in clock wise direction, and
  • The fourth figure has four arrows in anti clock wise direction.
  • So the answer figure should have five arrows in clock wise direction. The figure in option D satisfies the rule.Hence the answer is D.

Illustration : In the problem,a set of four figures are given with four option figures marked (A), (B), (C) and (D), The problem figure has certain common features. Select a figure from the options which has the same features..

    A

    B

    C

    D

    Answer : A

Solution :  On analysing the problem figures we see that hand of the clock is rotating in clockwise direction as we move from one figure to the next figure. Moreover the it is rotating in steps of 1, 2, 3 and so on.

  • The first figure hand is pointing in the upward direction or we can say is at 12 hour position.
  • The second figure hand has rotated in clockwise direction and has moved one step and is at 1 hour position.
  • The third figure hand has rotated in clockwise direction and has moved two steps and is at  3 hour position, and
  • The fourth figure hand has rotated in clockwise direction and has moved three steps and is at 6 hour position
  • So the answer figure should have hand pointing at 10 hour position as then the has rotated in clockwise direction and has moved four steps. The figure in option A satisfies the rule.Hence the answer is A.
